La forma base, sin 'to', sin '-s' y sin '-ing': She can swim. / He must study. / It might rain.
Error típico: 'I must to study' — ¿por qué está mal?
Los modales nunca van seguidos de 'to'. Correcto: I must study. Igual: can go, might call, should practice.
Sin do/does: You shouldn't worry. / Can I help you? (nunca 'Do you can...?')
must: The lights are on — she must be home.
'No puede estar en casa' (deducción negativa): ¿must not o can't?
can't: He can't be 40 — he looks 25! Nunca 'mustn't be' para deducción.
Diferencia entre 'don't have to' y 'mustn't'
don't have to = no es necesario (You don't have to come). mustn't = está prohibido (You mustn't tell anyone).
must vs. have to: ¿cuál es la diferencia de matiz?
must = obligación fuerte o interna/normativa (I must finish this tonight). have to = obligación externa y más común al hablar (I have to work on Saturday).
Los tres usos de 'could'
1) Habilidad pasada: When I was 12, I could run fast. 2) Posibilidad/sugerencia: We could go tonight. 3) Cortesía: Could you repeat that, please?
Could you say that again, more slowly? / Could you explain what this means? / Can I ask a question?
might, may y could para posibilidad: ¿se diferencian?
It might/may/could rain later.
