How do you form the future tense in Egyptian Arabic?
Replace the present prefix bi- with ha- on the imperfect verb (biktib → hayiktib).
haktib هكتب
I will write (ha- + aktib merges, not ha2aktib)
hashoufak bukra
I'll see you tomorrow.
How do you negate a ha- future verb?
Use mish before the verb: mish hashoufak innaharda (I won't see you today).
What is an active participle (اسم الفاعل)?
An adjective-like word on the CaaCiC pattern that takes no prefix and agrees in gender/number, e.g. raaye7 / ray7a / ray7een.
ana raaye7 el-gam3a
I'm on my way to the university.
Why say 'ana mish faahim' instead of 'mish bafham'?
For verbs like fehem, the participle is the natural way to say 'I don't understand' right now.
What does 'ana waakil' actually mean?
I've already eaten (result stands) — for eating right now, say bakol dilwa2ti.
What do participles of motion verbs often express?
The near future: ana msaafir bukra = I'm traveling tomorrow.
Contrast bashrab shay / hashrab shay
bashrab shay = I drink tea (habit, bi-); hashrab shay = I will drink tea (future, ha-).
