Why is the 6-second method essential in atrial fibrillation?
Irregular R-R intervals make single-interval methods wildly inaccurate; averaging over 6 seconds gives a true average ventricular rate
Formula for the 1500 method
Rate = 1500 ÷ number of small boxes between two consecutive R waves

Ventricular rate is measured R-to-R; atrial rate is measured P-to-P using the same three methods — identical in normal sinus rhythm
